\n<\/span>I<\/strong>t is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dulcinea Langfelder (n\u00e9e Dulcy), a committed artist and pioneer of the interdisciplinary arts. The ovarian cancer she had been fighting vigorously since 2018 finally took her life on Sunday 26 January 2025. She would have been 70 in a few days’ time, on February 6<\/p>\n
A New Yorker by birth, a Montrealer by adoption, her exceptional career was that of an eclectic artist who remained faithful to a strong humanist mission: to tackle human dilemmas and break down barriers with the aim of improving the world. When her company was founded in 1985, her creations were considered unclassifiable because they fused dance, theatre, song, mime, video projection and multimedia. But for Dulcin\u00e9e, the human imagination didn’t fit into a box. She would use one technique or another as her imagination led her.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
In her creations, Dulcin\u00e9e tackled the most delicate subjects in a bold and sensitive way. Art that feels good, inner strength, humour and a sensitive intelligence are the palette with which she has coloured her works. As she herself is the result of a genetic, cultural and artistic cross-fertilisation, she has built her works as bridges promoting tolerance between peoples, inter-religious reconciliation, bringing generations together and overcoming our human dilemmas. With her universal artistic vision, she has had a major international impact, representing Quebec in theatres and festivals around the world on more than 125 tours. The power of her work has touched the hearts of the thousands who made up her audience leaving deep and unforgettable emotional impressions.<\/div>\n

Dulcin\u00e9e, winner of numerous awards including the Ordre des arts et des lettres du Qu\u00e9bec, has produced 8 original works: Cercle vicieux (1985), La Voisine (1989), Hockey! Ok? (1991), Portrait d’une femme avec valise (1994), Victoria (1999), La Complainte de Dulcin\u00e9e (2008), Confidences sur l’oreiller (2013). Finally, Cheek to Cheek – l’amour avec un grand C (2018), which was a moving reflection on her entire career, making no secret of the cancer that affected her.<\/div>\n

In addition to her shows, Dulcin\u00e9e has given talks to relatives of Alzheimer’s sufferers and women at risk of ovarian cancer, opening up dialogue and giving them the tools she has discovered.<\/div>\n

In 2022, to ensure that her flagship show, Victoria, would continue to be useful after her death, she turned it into a film.<\/div>\n

More recently, Cercle vicieux, her very first work in 1985, the one that revealed her to the world as an interdisciplinary artist, has been adapted in 360\u00b0 format for broadcast in a dome and will be released in 2025. A great way to come full circle.<\/div>\n

Dulcin\u00e9e has been, and will remain, a luminous source of inspiration for thousands of spectators, for her peers, for her colleagues and for all those close to her. Her artistic and humanist legacy will continue to shine and touch our hearts. She will be deeply missed.<\/div>\n
