Dulcinea Langfelder founded her company, Dulcinea Langfelder & Co., in Montreal in 1985, creating and performing works that transcend disciplinary and cultural boundaries and resonate with to broad audience around the world. Over the past twenty-five years, her productions have toured throughout North America as well as to Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa. Born in New York, Dulcinea is one of the artists at the core of Montreal's reputation for outstanding multi-disciplinary creation. Dulcinea integrates dance, physical theatre, music, multi-media as a means to an end -- a delicate bittersweet kind of enigmatic human theatre that becomes far more than the sum of all its very disparate parts. With interactive technology, she fuses all this into a simple poetic-magical absurdity that makes us see the unbearable vulnerability of ordinary people with fresh eyes and fresh sympathy. Enjoying her artistic liberty, Dulcinea has also worked in theatre, cinema, music and musical theatre as choreographer and/or actress. Her versatility and her inspired performances garnered her «Personality of the Year in Dance», an honor given by the major Montreal daily, La Presse, in 1990. Vicious Circle (1985), The Lady Next Door (1989), Hockey! O.K.? (1991), Portrait of a Woman with Suitcase (1994) Victoria (1999) and Dulcinea’s Lament (2008) have won hearts, minds and various prizes. These works are translated and performed in several languages. Her most recent work, Dulcinea’s Lament was premiered at Arts Sphere in Tokyo in September 2008 and then presented in Montreal in both English and French during CINARS. La Presse named Dulcinea’s Lament among the Montreal season’s best theatre performances in 2008. Since then, the production has toured to Brazil (the Festival de Curitiba, SESC in Rio di Janeiro and SESC in Sao Paulo) and to three festivals in Asian (the Uijeongbu Music Theatre Festival in Korea, the Macau International Arts Festival and the Chiang Kai Shek National Cultural Centre in Taipei).

At the top of this smart and witty multi-media production as Dulcinea Langfelder is just beginning to tell the story of Dulcinea del Toboso, she finds herself literally possessed by Dulcinea del Toboso, who insists on telling her OWN story HER way. Dulcinea del Toboso then explores just how Don Quixote had imagined her… and is not all that pleased with what she discovers… leading her to take a broader look at how mankind in general has 'imagined' women across civilizations and throughout time. She soon discovers that the dialectic between men and women cannot really be separated from matters of politics and religion, of wars, disputes and religious intolerance, and that to even begin to address these questions, especially in a post-911 world, forgiveness and tolerance need to be our points of departure. “What if legendary danseuse Isadora Duncan came back to life and tried her hand at Dulcinea’s Lament is co-produced by the Performing Arts Series at Johnson County Community College (Overland Park, KS) and has benefitted from creative residencies with the Banff Centre (Banff, Canada), Hexagram (Montreal, Canada), Usine C (Montreal, Canada), Place des Arts (Montreal, Canada) and Théâtre du Bic (Rimouski, Canada).
